CARING FOR YOUR SKIN DURING HARMATTAN
The harmattan season, which lasts from late November to February or early March, is distinguished by dry and dusty winds.
Taking care of dry skin during harmattan can be difficult, especially with the increased dryness that comes with the period. When the skin is not adequately cared for, it appears dry, pale or ashy, and often flaky.
Here are some tips in caring for the skin during this period
AVOID USING SPONGES-
Wet your skin, apply the washing agent, massage with your bare hands, and rinse. Do not wait for your skin to totally dry before applying moisturizer. Damp skin absorbs products better.
Drink at least a litre and a half of water every day. This aids in the removal of pollutants and maintains your skin supple. Reduce your intake of caffeine and carbonated beverages, and increase your intake of fruits and vegetables. To relieve throat inflammation, drink honey, lemon, and ginger mixed in warm water.
Use a light body scrub to gently remove dead skin cells and reveal your natural radiance. Excessive exfoliation should be avoided since it strips the skin of its natural oils, resulting in dry skin.
Sunscreen should be worn at all times. Wear a sunscreen with an SPF of 30-50.
USE LESS MAKEUP
Wear minimal makeup. A face beat is not appropriate during the harmattan season. It is best to wear less makeup and, if you must, prepare your skin. Make sure you prime your face with an excellent moisturizer before applying anything else since the last thing you want to do is apply makeup on dry, flaky skin.
Replace your matte foundation with a moisturizing foundation that glides on effortlessly.
Matte lipsticks are lovely, but not when your lips get dry and cracked as a result of the harmattan. As a result, use less lipstick and more lip gloss or lip balm.
It is vital to remove your makeup at the end of the day.
Because the dry wind carries a lot of dust, leaving your makeup on overnight means you’re preserving all the dust and bacteria that have accumulated on your face during the day, which can trigger acne irritation. After wiping, carefully wipe your face to remove any makeup and dust.
